Trip to Southern California - Day Three

We went to Sunday mass at St. Bonaventure parish in Huntington Beach.  It has some dramatic stained glass windows.  I particularly like the one near the baptismal fount.  After Mass we walked the two plus miles back to the house.  It was warm and sunny with little traffic.  We even passed up a Starbuck's in order to get back by 11:00 when we were to head out to Bolsa Chica Preserve.  Laura has been involved there for many years and today was one of the monthly work days when volunteers worked to plant native plants which will eventually return the area to its original ecosystem.  Laura, Thomas, and Maggie had been working there all morning.  When we got home, we drove over to see their work and pick them up.

We got there just as they were finishing up.  It was a bit cooler along the coast but still lovely and warm.  We went back to the house and hooked up with Robert and Henry and then we all walked up to Bowl of Heaven for their very interesting concoctions.  As you can see, Grandma and Maggie were first in line and then just had to sit in the sunshine to enjoy what they finish of their dishes.  Marilyn saved about half of hers for breakfast Monday!

After a bit of a rest, Galen, Marilyn and I headed out to Seal Beach to see if the rip tide warnings and bigger surf would bring out some skilled surfers.  At first we disappointed because there were two surfers who weren't able to catch any of the waves.  Then a lone surfer appeared who was quite skillful.  You can view a slide show of a sequence of images I captured of him below.

When we got back, naps were in order and then out to dinner at a Himalayan Grill in Huntington Beach.  The food was delicious.  Maggie and Grandaddy especially enjoyed their meals.
